Spend the weekend learning from and playing with 3 world class old time musicians and great teachers and “JUMPSTART” your playing! Janie’s Jumpstart features small classes (8 students max per class), delicious food, great teachers, staff house concert and tons of jamming with the teachers all in a comfortable house setting!
Our motto is “we are not here to teach you all the tunes, but how to play them better”!

FULL WEEKEND registration includes 6 meals/snacks, 9+ hours of instrumental classes with your teacher, Ensemble Classes, Instructor house concert and hours of jamming with the instructors all weekend long.

Old Time Fiddle with Becca Wintle
OLD TIME FIDDLE CLASS WITH BECCA WITTLE: Becca will introduce the fiddling of Kentucky fiddler Emma Lee Dickerson, a rare example of a female fiddler who has been recorded. She will teach some of her tunes and break down elements of her bowing style and rhythm. Becca will also teach some more general practice techniques to improve bowing, tone and intonation.
Becca is an accomplished musician and music therapist. She plays fiddle, guitar and sings with bands such as The Farwells (with her wife Debra Clifford) and a UK-based string-band The Waggonhoppers. She has been playing fiddle since she was young, originally learning classical and then playing in an English country-dance band for many years. She later became interested in bluegrass and ultimately Southern Appalachian string-band music. She taught fiddle at the Ashokan Center's Old-Time Rollick for 6 years, has facilitated many workshops at camps in the UK and also teaches privately. She has gained a fine reputation for her patient and clear teaching style and her emphasis on bowing technique and how to get that driving rhythmic southern Appalachian sound.

Clawhammer Banjo Class with Janie Rothfield
Janie will be upping the ante with your clawhammer playing by focusing on the intricacies of rhythm, groove, speed and creativity with Clawhammer banjo-We will be working on perfecting our techniques such as slides, hammer on’s, pull off’s, drop thumb, chordal options, ghosting, harmony, and interesting chordal patterns and applying them to a variety of interesting tunes and keys to ramp up your playing . We will also work on musicality and how to create a musical conversation with a fiddler, and in a jam or band setting! This class is for intermediate-advanced players who can play at a medium-faster speed in a jam. Janie will also share strategies for picking up a tune by ear in a jam, chords for back up, harmony playing with a variety of tunes from new (Janie originals) and old time sources such as Tommy Jarrell, Uncle Norm Edmunds, Snake Chapman and more!CLICK HERE FOR JANIE ROTHFIELD BIO
Int/Adv Old Time Guitar with Allan Carr
This class is for guitarist who are looking to add technique, rhythm and musicality to their back up guitar playing. Allan will share strategies to help you play with the power to drive a tune and move the tune with a variety of bass runs, moving chords and chordal substitutions that will complement the fiddler or in a band or jam setting.
