In addition to perfecting our techniques such as slides, hammer on’s, pull off’s, drop thumb) we will work on ghosting, use of harmony, and interesting chordal patterns and how to apply them to a variety of interesting tunes and keys to ramp up your playing . We will also work on musicality and how to create a musical conversation with a fiddler, and in a jam or band setting! Each of these fabulous instructors will share their playing technique and repertoire for you to add to your arsenal of old time music.

Janie and Rachel will teach a variety of tunes from their varied repertoire with a focus on rhythm, bowing, musicality, learning a tune on the fly, improvisation, back up techniques and more! Particular attention will be made to developing powerful listening skills to hear and play the nuances from source recordings and playing with another fiddler or banjo player. Developing a musical conversation that is interesting and fun! You will learn the techniques, style and fun repertoire from these three fine fiddlers.

Int/Adv Back Up Guitar with Allan and David

This class is for intermediate-advanced students who know their basic first position chords, using a flatpick and who are ready to dive deeper into more intricate rhythms, alternative chords, bass run fun and most importantly, MUSICALITY!!

Your instructors will be focusing on the techniques of picking, rhythmic strumming and the use of dynamics to show you how to support and drive the tunes! The class will explore and discuss the mysteries of the "boom and the chuck" and how to sync up with the fiddler or band to get that old time sound from old time sources such as Roy Harvey and Riley Pucket!

Additionally they will focus on the technique and use of simple and creative (or even inovative) bass runs to connect to the chord changes in a tune.   You will also learn about how to pick up tunes on the fly, and express yourself musically while having fun in the process!  Mainly working with example tunes to work on in the keys of A, D, G and C, both recorded and with a fiddler. The guitar class will enable you to layer on and add the techniques to your playing at the level you are at-and have fun driving the tune and playing Old Time Back up Guitar!

Allan and David both are driving and creative back up guitar players-they will show you how they do what they do and how to apply these techniques to a variety of tunes!
